Ok, so this isn't in one solid piece yet, but I figured I'd post some pictures of where it started, and then when I'm done in a month or two you can see where it ended up. This is when Heather first brought it home for me....
![]() and this is the top end which was seized into one big piece. The piston was stuck in the cylinder and the rod would not spin on the crankshaft... ![]() |

Initially I replaced the cylinder and crankshaft with used ones, and bought a new piston and rings. Cleaned out the carb, tore everything off the frame so I could clean all the rust out of the tank, put it all back together, but still had absolutely no compression. Rebuilt it again with another set of gaskets and this time only got about 90psi. Didn't matter because the clutch blew up after only running it a couple minutes anyway.
Currently I have a Techno Circuit pipe hanging in my basement, have a Jcams intake/carb on the way, and in a couple weeks am gonna order an airsal or alukit. I straightened up the wheels as best I could but I'm hoping to replace them as well someday. Replaced the normal bars with some low rise bars, and replaced the stock seat and rack with a long seat. That's pretty much where I am now. I'll get some new pictures up when I get the rest of my parts and get the whole thing put together again. |

Last picture for today. This is the A3 as it sits in my basement now...
![]() No motor or wheels at the moment, but that stuff is being slowly sorted out, but those are the seat and bars, which make a huge improvement. |

I love the color. I normally like repainting things, but I haven't wanted to do anything to this because of the color. I'd also like to get another front fender and cut it down a bit smaller, but I'm never gonna find one to match the color, and black might not look right.
The zipper is cool too. The bottom of the seat pan drops down about 1.5 inches and is about 2 inches wide for the width of the seat, so I could definitely stash some tools or registration in there. The only problem is it's a small zipper, so I doubt I'd ever get anything out. A velcro flat would be more useful. |

I don't actually remember where I got them. They're bicycle handlebars, but they're made for a downhill bike, so even though they look like mountain bike bars, they're 7/8ths the whole way because those bikes have stems more like a bmx bike. They're made by 3TTT.
When I first got the moped it came with a normal bmx style stem and bar setup. I bought the new top triple with the built in bar clamps to replace it. Depending on what wheels I go with I may ditch the stock speedo and just replace it with a bicycle computer, and I think with the new top triple and bars it would really clean up the way the front end looks. |

Ex-cellent. Bike shop up the street builds custom BMXs, and should be able to hook me up.

Here's some better pictures of the bars. I had thought I'd like to remove the stock speedometer and replace it with a bicycle computer to clean up the front end, but after I pulled it off again, I feel like I like the way it looks with the stock speedometer better. It somewhat hides all the cables and gives it a better line from the headlight to the bars, so I may leave it on, depending on what kind of wheels I end up going with.

Alright, made some good progress lately. A couple main things are:
-got my Jcam intake and Mikuni vm20 carb -Got my new wheels -ordered my kit with some other random junk Once this last order comes in I should have everything I need to get moving, aside from perfecting the jet size. I've currently got the engine cases soaking in a bucket of simple green. I'm going to scrub them well tomorrow and paint the motor black and rebuilt it with some stainless steel hardware so it looks like the motor off of my old triumph speed four, only mini. The motor on the bike in the pictures is my parts motor, I know it looks awful, it's just there for looks at the moment. I've also gotta paint the exhaust baffle black as well. Then put it all back together and see how it's running. I'd like to find some gold grips too, but I've got a spare set of white ones I'm gonna try out first. ![]() Here's a larger version of the picture, I just didn't want to post it here and take up the whole screen. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4004/...7ea76a0e_b.jpg Last edited by upthemaiden : 03-19-10 at 11:25 PM. |
